Episode 11 - Something Old and Something New

I review "The Stranger" (1946) Directed by Orson Welles ( "Citizen Kane , "The Magnificent Ambersons") Starring Welles, Edward G. Robinson and Loretta Young. I also review "Unsane" (2018) Directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Oceans Eleven" , "Traffic") Starring Claire Foy, Amy Irving and Jay Pharoah. Both films are streaming now. "The Stranger" on Netflix and "Unsane" on Amazon Prime. 

 

I also comment on the passing of Burt Reynolds.  

Episode 10 - Polarization infects SCOTUS and Intelligence

The show hits Episode 10 !!! To mark the occasion I start my discussion on how polarization has infiltrated all areas of politics. On this show I speak about SCOTUS nominees Merrick Garland and Brett Kavanaugh and the invective each nominee received from the opposite party.

 

I also discuss President Trump revoking the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan and the possible long term consequences of this action.  

Episode 9 - New Oscar Category for Popular Film

In this episode I review the film "Christopher Robin" the live action version of the Winnie the Pooh story starring Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting" , "Angels & Demons") and directed by Marc Forster ( "Finding Neverland", "Quantum of Solace").

I also discuss the new Oscar category " Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film" I push back against the backlash this news has received and explain why I believe this is actually a good idea in this day and age.

This episode includes my interview with Scott M. Deitche author of 'Cigar City Mafia" . The discussion centers around the mob presence in Ybor City and Tampa , Florida. The Don of the Tampa Mafia was Santo Trafficante, Jr. ,we discuss his reign over Florida and intersection with such figures and events as Fidel Castro, the JFK assassination and Donnie Brasco. 

Episode 6 - The First Buccaneer - Lee Roy Selmon

On the show today I will be discussing the career of the late Lee Roy Selmon, he was the first ever draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976 when the expansion team selected him #1 overall. A dominant college player at the University of Oklahoma where he won 2 consecutive national championships, he continued his dominance in the NFL helping lead the Bucs from a 0-26 start to the NFC Championship game 2 years later. His greatness on the field was only surpassed by his humility, kindness and generosity of spirit off of it. 

Episode 5 - Black Panther's Erik Killmonger - Why the praise is overrated.

On this show I will be speaking with my brother Jason about the Marvel Film Black Panther and specifically the character of Erik Killmonger. While critics universally praised Michael B. Jordan’s performance we discuss our issues with the  character and compare this villain to other villains in the MCU and DC CU.   Jason also gives us 2 quick reviews of Incredibles  2 currently in theaters and Steven Speilberg's Ready Player One which is now available for purchase. WARNING :  THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

Episode 4 - Dr. Peggy McLeod of Unidos US

        I will be speaking with Dr. Peggy McLeod who currently is the Vice President of Education and Workforce Development at Unidos US a bi-partisan nonprofit organization that works with Latino communities across the United States. 

       Dr. McLeod is currently in the Texas regional office of Unidos US. She has specialized in the field of special education for her entire career and this led her to become a political appointee in the Clinton administration where she worked at the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services from 1995-2001.  We discuss her career and her experiences working in a cabinet level department.

Episode 3 - Rom Com Corner - The Holiday (2006)

This episode marks the debut of Rom Com Corner. I will review a popular / well loved romantic comedy.  I will discuss the 2006 film The Holiday written and directed by Nancy Meyers (“ Something’s Gotta Give”  ,” It’s Complicated”) Starring Kate Winslett, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and  Jack Black.
